United Taekwondo Gradings

Gradings are held four times a year. A grading is where a student applies for promotion and participates in an examination in front of the Master Examiner – Master Paul. Students are assessed in their proficiency of techniques and patterns at their current grade. If a student does not reach a level of attainment on the day, they will be given a continuance and be asked to re-sit the examination during class or at the next grading, at no extra cost. There is no pressure for students to grade, however all students are encouraged to apply for gradings when they think they are ready, to advance their own development.

The grades are as follows:

  • 10th kup - White belt
  • 9th kup - White belt, yellow tip
  • 8th kup - Yellow belt
  • 7th kup - Yellow belt, green tip
  • 6th kup - Green belt
  • 5th kup - Green belt, blue tip
  • 4th kup - Blue belt
  • 3rd kup - Blue belt, brown tip
  • 2nd kup - Brown belt
